Community Profile
The City of Swift Current is located at the junction of Highway 4 and the TransCanada Highway, serving a regional population of 55,000 people, and is home to approximately 17,000 residents. About six million people live within an 800 kilometre radius.
Swift Current’s economy is commodity based and driven by agriculture, oil, gas, manufacturing, retail and tourism. The City is home to three inland grain terminals and the internationally known Semi-Arid Prairie Agriculture Research Centre, which emphasizes farming's importance to the region.
Swift Current serves as the base for oil exploration in Western Saskatchewan, an area that yields medium crude oil and medium natural gas, and is the home of Batco Manufacturing, Rem Manufacturing, and Urban Forest Recyclers.
Over 1,000 licensed businesses, manufacturers and professional offices serve a growing local market area. These industries have contributed to the successful diversification of the economy from grain farming, to ranching, and the oil industry.
Living Sky Casino and Sky Centre, a multi-purpose facility, has been a major contributor to the growth of tourism. The $35M facility is a joint development between the File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council and Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority.
A key cornerstone to any community is having a quality healthcare facility. Cypress Regional Hospital, a $38M facility, is a source of pride to the community, and coupled with the excellent healthcare providers, provides a tremendous asset to both city residents and the entire southwest region.
